Here at BluKo HQ, and in life, there is one thing you are never too far away from hearing; “I haven’t got the time”, “I would only do it if I had the time”, or “there just aren’t enough hours in the day”. It is such a common reason for not doing something. Quite frankly time is the most precious, and universal thing we all possess. It is limited, it is running out, and it will never increase. So how we use it is so important. We often waste time on things that aren’t important, especially in business. Well I would like to offer 3 alternative suggestions as to how we can make the most of that most precious of commodities, to achieve the things we want to.
Yes, I am about to say sleep more, work less. It sounds a little counter intuitive I know, but trust me, it is essential to working effectively. What would be more valuable to you an hour in which you are highly energised and alert, or an hour in which all you can think about is, when you get to put your head on the pillow again?
It is simply all about, quality over quantity. So many people are willing to spend a higher volume of working hours at a completely counter intuitive level of productivity. But surely it should be the other way around. It is all about the quality of your hours, not the quantity. Try it, and see how it works for you.
2. Get clear on your aims
You may be amazed to know how many businesses don’t have clear aims about what they are trying to achieve. This really can transform how you use your time. Sit down and write out your aims for the next 3 years. Then imagine yourself having achieved them, now think what did I do to get there. Write them down, and do them. You will make it to your aims.
Another great way to keep on track is to write a 90 day plan with your goals in mind. Remember to ask yourself everyday, how is what we are doing here contributing to our aims? Is it helping us get there? Yes? Keep it going. No? Well let’s put this on hold or drop it.
Having clear aims can help you to use your time in a much more effective way.
3. Quite frankly just let go
I know how scary this can sound, but it is essential to allowing you to use your time more effectively. You hire people for the skills they have, and for them to do a job. Trust them and allow them to do their work, they will reciprocate this trust, and you may be surprised what people can do, given the opportunity to be responsible.
This will free you up from all the minor decisions / tasks that will take your time up. Leaving you to concentrate on more relevant matters, closer to your skill set. Thereby, allowing you to use your time to drive things forward, and achieve your aims.
I hope these alternative ways of creating more time for yourself help you in your business. Sometimes even the smallest change can have the biggest effect.
